By standing on the rudderless board and maneuvering the sail, windsurfing requires technique and courage to harness wind and wave while gliding along the water's surface.

As an Olympic sport, windsurfing was introduced to China on June 8, 1979, when coach Wang Li at the Qingdao Sailing Sport School in Shandong province made the very first windsurf board in China.
