Study: Elderly prefer to receive care at home

By Li Lei | China Daily | Updated: 2018-05-16 07:52

As demand for eldercare services rises, the vast majority of elderly Chinese people prefer in-home services over nursing homes, research shows.

A study by the China Research Center on Aging found that more than 80 percent of elderly prefer to receive nursing care at home, rather than at professional facilities such as nursing homes. The ratio is even higher for those with disabilities, reaching almost 90 percent.

The Blue Book on Aging: Survey Report on the Living Conditions of China's Urban and Rural Older Persons 2018, which was released on Tuesday, found that only 4 percent of those over 60 want to be cared for at a nursing home.
