Ex-legislator tried for graft
Li Wenke, former deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Liaoning Provincial People's Congress, was accused during a court trial in Jilin province on Thursday of taking and offering bribes. Li, who was born in 1956, was placed under investigation by the top disciplinary authority in February last year. He was accused of accepting bribes totaling more than 36.5 million yuan ($5.8 million) between 1997 and 2016, when he worked at several positions in Liaoning, according to the Tonghua intermediate people's court. He also offered bribes worth 1.86 million yuan to 55 officials to get promotions, the court said. The court said its judgment will be announced at a later date.
