PepsiCo unveils new plan to tackle global water crisis

By Wang Zhuoqiong | China Daily | Updated: 2018-03-29 07:55

PepsiCo observed World Water Day on March 22 by offering a plan to tackle the international water crisis - namely through innovation, green production, water recycling and greater access to safe drinking water.

According to the latest statistics from the United Nations, there are more than 663 million people who lack a safe water supply close to their home, which means they spend countless hours queuing or trekking to distant sources, and/or coping with the health impacts of using contaminated water.

China has 6 percent of the world's fresh water, and per capita consumption of fresh water is at only 28 percent of the world average, making China one of the most water-scarce countries on Earth.
