More schools shut down over volcano
The country's most active volcano spewed lava that cascaded downslope and emitted ash that fell on nearby towns, officials said on Tuesday, prompting the provincial government to shut more schools. Authorities repeated the warning that a hazardous eruption could happen any time. Class suspensions have allowed the government to use schools as temporary shelters for displaced people.

48 injured in school bus crash
A bus carrying children to school in southern Germany hit multiple cars and then slammed into the side of a building without braking, injuring 48 people on Tuesday, including 10 seriously. The injured were 43 children and the bus driver, as well as other adults who were aboard the bus, police said. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the accident.

Reissue of booklet on war threat
The government said it will issue an updated version of a Cold War-era civil emergency advice booklet, reflecting Stockholm's concerns of a worsened regional security situation. An official said a government agency would give practical advice on modern crises such as cyber or terror attacks, pandemic or environmental threats, along with conventional warfare.

3 still missing in deadly mudslides
The number of people missing from last week's deadly Southern California mudslides fell to three on Monday as hundreds of rescue workers searched for survivors from the rain-driven slides that killed 20 people. Emergency officials said hopes were diminishing that they would pull more survivors from the debris.

Teens suspected of sending porn
More than 1,000 people, mostly teenagers, are facing charges of spreading sex videos of two 15-year-olds through Facebook, police said on Monday, in the nation's largest case of its kind. Facebook had received reports of two videos and an explicit photo from 2015 being spread on its instant messaging service, showing a boy and a girl having consensual sex. If found guilty, the suspects will likely receive a fine or a 20-day suspended sentence.

'Black Widow' on trial for poisoning
A woman dubbed the "Black Widow of the Riviera" for allegedly seducing and poisoning wealthy elderly men, leading to the deaths of two of them, went on trial for murder in the resort city of Nice on Monday. She is already serving a five-year prison term for theft, fraud and sequestration involving an octogenarian in the French Alps in 2012 who agreed to let her live with him in exchange for sexual relations.
