Lessons in how to survive disasters
Elementary school students will receive free brochures on staying alive after a natural or artificial disaster. The publications have been put together by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation and cover earthquakes, floods, tsunamis and major traffic accidents. Since the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake, the deadliest to hit China in more than 30 years, non-governmental organizations, or NGOs, and volunteers have been active in promoting education in disaster risk management. This latest brochure will raise the public's awareness in coping with and surviving disasters.
