Item from Nov 7, 1983, in China Daily: Diners enjoy their first taste of pizza in a restaurant in Beijing's North Dongdan Street. Huadu Restaurant said pizza was first introduced to the menu by foreign tourists.

Thanks to the country's reform and opening-up, restaurants serving Western food have opened across China, especially in big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai.

There are numerous restaurants serving a variety of foods from the United States, France, Italy, Japan and Russia, among other countries.
