Nickel producer to build new project in Guangxi
Jinchuan Group, China's top nickel producer, will start building a new project next year to produce raw materials for electric vehicle batteries, its chairman said. The project, in the southern port city of Fangchenggang, the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, where Jinchuan already smelts copper and nickel, will have an annual production capacity of 30,000 metric tons of nickel and 3,000 tons of cobalt by 2020, Wang Yongqian said. The company's three main metals "are all raw materials for electric cars," Wang said, forecasting "explosive growth" in EVs in China over the next five to 10 years.
