Item from Oct 19, 1982, in China Daily: Workers at the Dalian Shipbuilding Yard are constructing an oil rig for the Baker Marine Corp of the United States.

With a history of more than 100 years, Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co has developed into China's biggest shipyard, and is able to design and build different types of naval ships, including submarines, missile destroyers and fleet-support vessels. In June, it launched the country's 13th Type 052D guided-missile destroyer.

The company also manufactured China's first homegrown aircraft carrier, which was launched in the coastal city of Dalian, Liaoning province, in April.
