Ex-PM sentenced 5 years in absentia
The Supreme Court on Wednesday found former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra guilty of malfeasance in a loss-ridden rice subsidy program and sentenced her in absentia to five years in jail. Yingluck did not show up at the court and has so far not made any public comment on the verdict. Yingluck denied all the charges when giving her closing oral statement in August.

Havana seeks to clarify incidents
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said on Tuesday in Washington that the cooperation with the United States is in need to clarify the incidents related to US diplomats in Havana. The main purpose of their meeting was to address the issue of the incidents about alleged acoustic attacks against US diplomats serving at the US Embassy in Havana, which resulted in the expel of two Cuban diplomats from Washington.

Titanic 'fatberg' clogs sewer
A gigantic glob of congealed fat, wet wipes and other waste - deemed a "fatberg" because of its iceberg-like size - has been blamed for a sewer overflow in Baltimore. The overflow discharged about 4.5 million liters of sewage into the Jones Falls waterway last week. The Baltimore Sun reported on Monday that the fatberg was discovered in a sewer near Baltimore Penn Station.
