Lifting content not allowed, Weibo says

By Ma Chi | China Daily | Updated: 2017-09-19 07:19

A new rule introduced by Sina Weibo, a Chinese social media service, to limit the reuse of user-generated content on the platform has caused a stir among users and highlights the degree to which internet platforms compete for user-generated content.

On Saturday, the platform sent all its users a notice prohibiting them from authorizing any third party to lift what is published on the platform without its written approval.

The notice sparked controversy over whether the rule infringes on the intellectual property rights of the content generators.
