Society: Hangzhou stem cell donor becomes online celebrity

Hangzhou resident Xu Aifei in Zhejiang province became an internet celebrity after donating stem cells and writing about her experience online. Xu, 28, donated the cells on Sept 12 and her post has garnered over 120,000 likes and nearly 40,000 reposts. Her experience won her the online nickname "the most beautiful donor". There are only about 2.3 million donors in the Chinese Marrow Donor Program, far lower than what is required. The match rate is also low, with only around 6,000 successful matches nationwide up till now.
