Society: Freight trains roll to link N.E. China, German city

A freight train chugged out of a railway station in Shenyang, Liaoning province, on Saturday, heading for Duisburg, Germany, marking the start of a new route stretching more than 9,300 kilometers. The train will pass through Mongolia, Russia and Poland. A single journey takes 17 days, about half the time of a typical sea voyage. In the beginning, two trains will depart Shenyang and Duisburg each week. The number is expected to increase to five. Cargoes include industrial products from Shenyang and commodities from Japan and South Korea.
