Typhoon Mawar makes landfall

Typhoon Mawar made landfall in Lufeng, Guangdong province at 9:30 pm on Sunday, packing winds up to 72 kilometers per hour, the National Meteorological Center said. The center renewed the yellow alert for Mawar on Sunday, as it will bring rainstorms and gales to parts of Guangdong and Fujian provinces from Sunday to Monday. The typhoon is expected to weaken quickly after making landfall, it said. The center suggested local governments take precautions against possible disasters and ships in affected areas return to port.
