Mayor, 13 others killed in raid

Philippine police fatally shot a city mayor who was among the politicians the president publicly linked to illegal drugs and at least 13 others in gunbattles that erupted on Sunday in the south, police said, in one of the bloodiest anti-drug assaults so far under his crackdown. Officers were to serve warrants to Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog Sr. of Ozamiz city to search his houses for suspected presence of unlicensed firearms when gunmen allegedly opened fire on the police, sparking clashes that killed the mayor and at least 11 other people, police Senior Superintendent Jaysen de Guzman said by phone.

Siege over at leader's home

Elite Kenyan security forces on Sunday killed a man at the home of Deputy President William Ruto, ending a 20-hour siege that began with an attack in which a policeman was injured, police said. Ruto and his family were not at the vast property in the northwest of the country during Saturday's attack, which came less than two weeks before the country votes in high-stakes elections. Kenya's police chief Joseph Boinnet said on Sunday morning that the assailant had just been shot and killed and "the situation is under control".

2 arrested after girl raped twice

Two men have been arrested after a girl was shockingly raped twice on the same night in the British city of Birmingham, the BBC reported on Saturday. The 14-year-old was attacked at Witton station in Birmingham on Tuesday night and was then raped again after flagging down a vehicle as she left the station in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the BBC. Two men, aged 35 and 27, have been held on suspicion of rape relating to the first attack. Police are still hunting another man over the second rape.

20,000 flee fire at music festival

A spectacular fire at a music festival in Spain forced the evacuation of over 20,000 concertgoers in Barcelona, the regional government said. Images showed towering flames consuming a large outdoor stage on Saturday night at the "Tomorrowland" electronic music festival held at Barcelona's Parc de Can Zam.

Man loses car worth $260k

A driver has crashed his new Ferrari worth more than $260,000 in central England, just an hour after collecting it, reports said. The accident happened on Thursday afternoon on the M1 motorway near Barnsley, South Yorkshire, as the Ferrari 430 Scuderia "left the carriageway and burst into flames", according to a Facebook post published on Friday by the South Yorkshire police.
