Cheong claims first gold for Malaysia

China Daily | Updated: 2017-07-21 09:05

Malaysian Cheong Jun Hoong upstaged China's gold-medal hopefuls in Wednesday's final of the women's 10-meter platform at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest.

The 27-year-old Cheong upset Si Yajie and Ren Qian to become the first Malaysian to win a world diving title.

The Chinese collapse evoked memories of the 2015 worlds in Kazan, where Ren was beaten by DPR Korea's Kim Kuk-hyang on the final dive.
