Bootleg liquor kills at least 18

At least 18 people were killed and more than a dozen sickened after drinking spurious liquor in northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, local media reported on Monday. The bootleg liquor was consumed by people on Thursday in Azamgarh. Local authorities have ordered a probe into the tragedy. Spurious alcohol deaths are often reported in India, where people often drink cheap home-made bootleg liquor.

Police question six in arms deal

Israeli police said they had questioned six people on Monday on suspicion of corruption in a $2 billion naval defense deal with Germany. The 2016 deal has been under public scrutiny since it emerged that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's personal lawyer also represented the local agent of the German conglomerate ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems set to build the vessels.

Panic caused after earthquake

A magnitude-5.4 earthquake rocked Ormoc City in the central Philippines on Monday, causing panic among the residents who are still recovering from the trauma after a magnitude-6.5 earthquake hit the same region on Thursday. Officials said the epicenter of the quake that hit Leyte Province at 9:41 am was recorded 15 kilometers northeast of Ormoc City with a depth of 6 km.

Camden Market fire under control

More than 70 firefighters have brought a fire under control at London's Camden market after a blaze broke out at a building at the popular tourist attraction overnight, firefighters said. The cause of the fire was unknown and there were no immediate reports of any injuries or casualties. The fire damaged the first, second and third floors and the roof of the building.

One dead in soccer fan violence

One man died and three others were injured during clashes between soccer fans in Brazil. Violence erupted outside the Sao Januario stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday after Flamengo defeated local rivals Vasco da Gama 1-0. The 27-year-old man died after being shot in the throat, police said.
