IT-strong Ge Hong to lead Airbnb's China unit
Airbnb, a US-based home-sharing service provider, appointed Ge Hong as leader of the Greater China Area and global vice-president. Ge would report directly to CEO Brian Chesky. The China post remained vacant since August 2015 when the company entered China. Airbnb had said it needs a manager who knows IT and understands the demands of Chinese customers. After graduating from Yale University majoring in computer science, Ge worked with Facebook and Google as technical director. He joined Airbnb in 2016 as in-charge of the products and technological research in China. Chesky said in March that China was one of the most important markets for the company.
