CIFTIS auctions off creative works' rights
The recently closed 2017 China Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services introduced auctions for the first time. Among the 107 auctioned items there were 35 intellectual properties, including the rights to cartoon characters, copyright of written works and broadcast and adaptation rights to videos. Officials from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce said the auctions help to link the rights owners with the market.

2,713 cases probed by authorities last year
The provincial science and technology administration announced that law enforcement authorities in Guizhou investigated 2,713 patent cases during a special campaign targeting IP infringements that lasted from February to November last year. The number was double that of the previous year. During the campaign, the focuses of the enforcement agencies included patent-intensive companies, exhibitions, professional markets and the internet.

E-commerce deal to boost cooperation
The provincial IP administration, the Shanxi Intellectual Property Rights Aid Center and local companies recently signed an agreement to strengthen cooperation in the e-commerce sector. The administration and the aid center will together offer consultations and quick-response services, organize special campaigns and hold training programs to improve the e-commerce environment.

6th cultural heritage festival starts Saturday
The Chengdu government recently announced that the sixth International Festival of Intangible Cultural Heritage will kick off on June 10 and last through June 18. Delegates from more than 100 countries, regions and international organizations will take part in the event, and more than 20 countries will be involved in the exhibition. The event will also host meetings, forums and performances.

Province looks to FTZs for reform inspiration
The provincial IP authority and the leadership office of the Liaoning pilot free trade area recently unveiled guidelines for IP work in the area. The guidelines suggested borrowing international common practices and experience of the existing domestic free trade zones in Shanghai and Fujian, and start reforms in the administration and enforcement of patents, trademarks, copyrights, integrated circuit designs and trade secrets.

Task force checks out more than 200 exhibits
The provincial IP authority launched a special enforcement campaign at the 2017 Silk Road International Exposition and the 21st Investment and Trade Forum for Cooperation between East and West China, which was held from June 3 to 7. Officials inspected more than 200 patented exhibits covering industries such as IT, new materials, healthcare and daily commodities. The China Intellectual Property Rights Aid Center set up an office at the event to accept complaints.
