Item from Oct 20, 1994, in China Daily: A ceremony was held in Lhasa, capital of the Tibet autonomous region, on Tuesday to mark the construction of the Potala Palace Square.

Tourism is booming in Tibet. More than 6.8 million Chinese and foreign tourists visited the region in the first half of this year alone, up by almost 32 percent year-on-year.

Tourism revenue during that period rose to 7 billion yuan ($1.05 billion), according to the regional tourism development commission.
