Fund to improve kids' nutrition

China Children and Teenagers' Foundation teamed up with sponsors of the Poverty Alleviation Initiative to launch the Spring Bud Free Lunch Project at a ceremony held in Beijing on Feb 18 to offer nutritional meals to impoverished schoolgirls. According to CCTF, the program is scheduled to collect public donations until June 25 and funds will be used to buy nutritional lunches for girls in the target demographics.

China offers aid to cyclone-hit Fiji

China provided emergency humanitarian aid of $100,000 to the Fiji Red Cross Society on Monday, becoming the first country to do so in the aftermath of severe tropical cyclone Winston that has claimed at least 20 lives, said a top official of the Fiji Red Cross Society. The Chinese embassy is in close contact with related departments of the Fijian government for disaster situation updates, said Gu Yu, charge d'affaires of the Chinese embassy in Fiji, adding that China is willing to continue to provide humanitarian aid to Fiji and actively participate in its reconstruction.
