Coal strike to hit power supply

India could face a serious power shortage in the coming days as a five-day strike by coal industry workers entered its second day Wednesday. Negotiations between government officials and trade unions failed on Tuesday night as the unions blamed the government for failing to bring any proposal to solve the crisis. On its first day, the strike affected 75 percent of the 1.5 million tons of daily coal production, and fuel supplies to nearly 100 power plants across the country may be threatened if the impasse continues, said local daily The Hindu.
