'Big data' has burgeoning implications

As a newcomer to the ChinaSourcing Summit that opened on Thursday in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, Xing Zhifeng from retail portal JD.com doesn't appear nervous about his first-time presentation at the annual event.

The chief of giant portal's data and innovation department will share his insights with the audience in the afternoon at a session on big data, a highlight of the meeting.

"Big data is currently a buzzword in the IT sphere, yet how to create value through the data is what the industry is interested in," Xing told China Daily in an earlier interview.
