The Pan-Beibu Gulf Zone has emerged as a new highlight of China-ASEAN cooperation in recent years with many construction projects in cities along the gulf, especially in the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.
Located to the south of the autonomous region, the gulf stretches along Guangxi, Guangdong and Hainan in China as well as Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia and Brunei.
The Beibu Gulf has 240 harbors with total berthing capacity of 17 million tons. In 2012, ships from those ports carried 65 percent of all goods shipped between China and ASEAN members.
