21 rescued after coal mine caves in, killing 1

Rescuers extracted 20 miners who had been trapped 930 meters underground in a coal mine after a tunnel collapsed in Huainan, Anhui province, on Tuesday.

Twenty-one people were trapped in the accident, which occurred at 9:55 am. One miner died, but 20 others were pulled out by 7:20 pm after a nine-hour effort, according to reports by China Central Television.

At the time of the cave-in, 22 miners were working to repair the tunnel, according to the Anhui Provincial Department of Safety Supervision.
