Jewelry auction to aid poorer children

A charity auction organized by the Shanghai Women's Federation, Consular Spouses Shanghai and Shanghai Children's Foundation was held on March 7, the eve of International Women's Day. A total of 268,500 yuan ($43,000) was collected. Jewelry donated by 26 consulate generals in Shanghai and Shanghai's jewelry companies was put into the auction. Among them, a brooch named Inspiration of Bird's Nest, which was donated by Shanghai Laofengxiang Jewelry Co, was bought by the highest bidder for 52,000 yuan. Earlier, the nearly 100 pieces of jewelry were displayed at Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts for public display. "The jewelry exhibition helps promote the cultural exchange and friendship between our countries," said Krista Reinhold, president of Consular Spouses Shanghai. "The auction event made a great contribution to help those needy children."
