Unlike his neighbors, Zhang Qingrui would not welcome the loss of Yuanfuzhuang's mountain of garbage.

What others consider a stinking eyesore is for him a godsend because collecting recyclable waste from the giant pile is his only source of income.

"No company would hire a person as old as me, so this is all I can do," said the 67-year-old villager.
