Milestones in WTO membership

Dec 11, 2001: The Protocol on the Accession of the People's Republic of China takes effect as the country becomes the 143rd member of theWTO. China begins to participate as a WTO member at the Doha round of negotiations.

June 20, 2002: China puts forward a bill on fishing subsidies, its first in the Doha round of negotiations. The action is supported by members such as Brazil and the Philippines.

Sept 2-6, 2002: China's delegation attends a special conference of the WTO committee on agriculture, expressing its general standing on a new round of agricultural negotiations.
