Wen to travel to Japan's disaster areas

By Wang Chenyan | China Daily | Updated: 2011-05-17 08:01

BEIJING - Premier Wen Jiabao's planned visit to Fukushima Prefecture and other quake-hit areas in Japan has attracted the attention of the nation's major media and is seen as an opportunity to improve Sino-Japanese relations.

Tension between China and Japan grew last September after a collision between Japanese coast guard vessels and a Chinese fishing boat in the East China Sea.

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu on Sunday said that Wen will attend the fourth trilateral summit of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) in Tokyo from May 21 to 22 and confirmed Wen's trip to Fukushima.
