Summit solidarity
The 18th Economic Leaders' Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, held in Yokohama, Japan, over the weekend, presented a major platform for APEC member economies to show solidarity and political will in their pursuit of common prosperity for the region in the post-crisis era.
The emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific region, with robust and sustained development, have become an important engine driving world economic growth. At the APEC summit, political leaders, business executives and academics sought increased cooperation, so as to shore up confidence in the region's sustained and balanced growth.
Delivering a keynote speech at the APEC CEO summit on Saturday, Chinese President Hu Jintao outlined China's five-point proposal for promoting common development and shared prosperity among the APEC economies. Hu elaborated on the economic growth of APEC economies and said it should be balanced, so as to facilitate long-term economic development; it should be inclusive, so as to boost the internal dynamism of economic development; and it should be sustainable, innovation-driven and secure.
