Lazy afternoons drifting without worries of work and life

While most modern city people are busy dedicating their afternoons to their jobs, the Taiwan writer Shu Guozhi is busy exploring the ideal way to spend a "lazy" afternoon.

For Shu, as he describes in his recent book An Ideal Afternoon, this can mean an afternoon spent walking along a river, lingering over a coffee at a caf, or simply having a chat with an interesting stranger.

The secret to enjoying an ideal afternoon, Shu writes, is to be a person who has the will to put down his or her work and take time to embrace whatever may occur, and Shu is just such a person.
