10 killed in SW China coal mine gas blast

KUNMING: Rescuers on Friday recovered the bodies of 10 miners killed in an explosion at a coal mine earlier in the day in southwest China's Yunnan province, according to the emergency rescue headquarters.

The apparent gas blast happened around 5:50 am at Chashan Coal Mine in Zhenxiong County, in the city of Zhaotong, while 13 miners were working underground, said a rescue headquarters spokesperson.

Three miners were rescued and hospitalized for injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening.
