Tourism to boost other sectors

In order to develop its culture and hi-tech industries, Sanya should first further promote its tourism sector, a senior city official says.

Tourism is a backbone industry for Sanya, a city renowned for its beaches and scenic coastline. Revenue from travel and leisure rose 23 percent to hit 8 billion yuan last year.

China's southernmost city should further advance its burgeoning tourism industry, which in turn could spur culture and creative hi-tech industries in the seaside city, said Li Boqin, Sanya's vice-mayor.
