Beijing hopes for diplomatic efforts on nuke issue

China hopes the Iran nuclear issue can be settled through diplomatic efforts and the authority of UN Security Council's resolutions to be preserved during the course, Chinese officials and experts said.

"China views the conference as a diplomatic effort on the Iran nuke issue," Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said yesterday, referring to the six-nation meeting.

"We hope the meeting can have a serious and objective assessment of the current situation of the Iran nuclear issue," the spokeswoman said.
