Teachers pardoned

Bangladesh President Iajuddin Ahmed yesterday pardoned three Dhaka University teachers, a few hours after a court convicted them for inciting campus violence and sentenced them to two years imprisonment.

The clemency paved the way for the immediate release of the teachers who had been detained since the August unrest that forced the army-backed interim government to impose curfews in the capital Dhaka and other major cities.
