Rural farmer takes advantage of the big city

Wang Quanhong, an enterprising farmer in Zhouzhi County, Shaanxi Province in Northwest China, figured out a good way to make some cash.

Wang lives in a small mountainous village near Luoguantai Forest Park, which attracts thousands of urban tourists every year. While other villagers would never even think of profiting off the tourists, Wang invested more than 200,000 yuan ($26,641) to build a restaurant and inn to attract visitors. He also put the information on the Internet, which brought even more visitors to his restaurant and inn.

'Excellent' woman cares for former mother-in-law

Yin Yuling, a resident of Dunhuang, Gansu Province in Northwest China who has been kindheartedly taking care of her former mother-in-law, is considered to be an example of an excellent woman.

Yin's husband Gong Jianmin was killed in a traffic accident in 1999. Since then, Yin has played her husband's role in looking after Gong's mother, who has been seriously ill for 10 years. Yin remarried in November 2004, but she has not forgotten about Gong's mother. Yin took her 81-year-old former mother-in-law into her new home and cared for the old lady with help from her second husband, Yang Zhiwen. The new family is living happily and modestly.

Big reward offered for little lost dog

A resident of Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province, surnamed He, offered a reward of 1,888 yuan ($251) for her lost dog.

He got her pet in 2006 and she loves it very much. Early this month, the dog (named Xue Er) went out of He's house to play but never came back. "I have looked for it everywhere in the city and posted a number of notices for my dog. If anyone can bring my dog back home, I will pay him 1,888 yuan," He said.
