Presidential aide resigns

A top aide to President Roh Moo-hyun has resigned over allegations that he attempted to protect a former university art professor at the center of a fake degree scandal, the presidential office said yesterday.

Roh accepted the resignation of Byeon Yang-kyoon, his chief secretary for national policy, after he acknowledged having close ties with Shin Jeong-ah, sacked by Seoul's Dongguk University after her academic credentials, including a Yale doctorate, were found in July to be false, the office said in a statement.
