Charity rules need review

China Daily | Updated: 2007-09-08 06:22

The government needs to improve regulations governing charity, says a commentary in China Business Times. The following is an excerpt:

The development of charity in China has always been an important part of the government's work. Most charity drives are initiated and sponsored by the government. And on many occasions, the government asks the public for donations, especially in times of natural disasters.

However, the government can no longer do all the work single-handedly as people in need are increasing. It should concentrate on some aspects of charity and farm others to qualified organizations.
