Move to reconstruct Enning Road

The Guangzhou government has mapped out a plan to reconstruct the ancient Enning Road, which is widely known for its European-styled arched buildings, or qilou.

Under the plan, six cultural relics, 216 historical buildings and seven public facilities will be designated as protected buildings.

Bruce Lee's former residence, arcades, bluestone paved alleys and dozens of big trees on the road are on the protection list.

Forest park looking at croc boom

More than 200 crocodile eggs are scheduled to hatch after a 70-day incubation period at the Shanshui Forest Park of Foshan, Guangdong Province.

The newly-born, pure-bred Siamese crocodiles measure 28 centimeters in length and weigh only 65 grams. After six months, their weight can reach up to 600 grams and their length as much as 70 centimeters.

Woman squeals on lover, reveals bomb shells

A woman blew the whistle on her lover, after he asked her to keep a bomb shell for him.

The 26-year-old woman had an affair with Li, a 47-year-old married truck driver, who loves to collect objects related to weapons. Li visited her at her home in Fan Ling, Hong Kong at about 3 am last Wednesday and asked her to keep a bag for him.

The bag turned out to contain a 5-kilogram bomb shell. She reported him after they had a quarrel about their relationship.

Li told police that he had bought the bomb shell for 15 yuan ($2) on the mainland. The police is tracing its source.

Parents sleep as toddler climbs window sill

Police gave a grave warning to a couple, who remained sound asleep while their 2-year-old son stood teetering on a window sill.

The couple live in a second-floor flat in Yau Ma Tei, Hong Kong, with their son. The boy woke up at 4 am on Wednesday, climbed onto the window sill and stood there looking outside. A neighbor and a taxi driver called police after seeing this. But the boy's parents were still sleeping when the police banged on their door. Though the window had grilles, the boy could have easily shaken them loose.

Culture center to be built for 2010 Asian Games

The southern city of Guangzhou, which will host the 2010 Asian Games, is planning to build an Asian Games Culture Center inside the Tianhe Sports Center, one of the main Games venues, to promote the spirit of the Games.

The four-story building, that will cover 20,100 square meters, will operate as a table tennis center and venue for Asian Games-related exhibitions, once the Games are over.

The Guangzhou Key Public Construction Project Office has opened bidding for the project, which is estimated to cost 63 million yuan ($8.2 million).

18m long bus on the cards for upcoming expo

The upcoming Guangzhou Expo, to be held from August 31 to September 3, will feature a super bus, measuring 18 meters in length.

The 2-million-yuan bus, which can hold up to 200 passengers, is being built by an auto company in East China's Zhejiang Province.
