Protection for minors

A top civil affairs official yesterday reiterated the government's determination to crack down on coerced begging involving minors and the handicapped.

"It (coerced begging) is a criminal activity and will be punished in accordance with the law," Li Liguo, vice-minister of civil affairs, said at a press conference yesterday.

He said there were many reasons why people turned to begging.
