Henan woman cares for soldier husband

Chen Shuzhen has touched hearts in Luoyang, Henan Province, for her care of her soldier husband, Zhao Manqi, paralyzed for more than 16 years.

Chen was completely paralyzed by a spinal cord injury related to army service in 1991.

"As a wife, I have the obligation to look after my soldier husband and help reduce the burden on the army," Chen said.

Moved by Chen's story, Premier Wen Jiabao visited Chen and her husband during an inspection tour in Luoyang on July 16.

Support Kaifeng: eat watermelon

Government agencies at all levels in Kaifeng, Henan Province, are urging local residents to eat more watermelons to help local growers. Officials are setting an example.

The official persuasion came after the wholesale price for watermelon dropped to a low of 10 fen (1.33 US cents) a jin (0.5 kilogram) when a large number of watermelons could not be transported out of the city due to heavy rain. Many more watermelons are rotting in fields, causing heavy losses.
