By Mu Qian | China Daily | Updated: 2007-06-30 07:33

Conducting an orchestra comprised of half Chinese and half German members requires understanding not only of classical music, but also of both cultures. To this end, Maestro Tang Muhai has an advantage, having spent half his life in China, and the other half in Germany.

From August 21 to 29, Tang will lead the newly-formed young.euro.classic Festival Orchestra Germany-China. More than 70 talented, young musicians will embark on the LANXESS young.euro.classic China Tour 2007, of Qingdao, Nanjing, Wuxi, Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin. Internationally acclaimed Chinese soprano Huang Ying will also tour with the orchestra.

"I have always had a wish to conduct an orchestra that is made of musicians from Germany and China," Tang says. "My study and conducting in Germany is the most important experience for my career."Maestro's half-score is young music's gain
