No survivors in Kenyan plane crash

Red Cross workers arrive near the scene of the Kenya Airways plane crash in a swampy area close to the village of Mbanga Pongo, 23 km east of the city of Douala, yesterday.Reuters

Rescuers in Cameroon hacked through mangrove thickets with machetes and chain saws yesterday to reach a crashed Kenya Airways plane, but officials said all 114 on board were dead.

Asked whether anyone survived, Luc Ndjodo, a local government official in charge of the recovery effort, said: "No."

Ndjodo added he had surveyed the entire site, which he described as covering only a few hundred meters in diameter and saw no survivors: "I was there. I saw none."
