Pacman Jones suspended for entire 2007 season

NEW YORK: Tennessee Titans cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones was suspended for the 2007 season for engaging in off-the-field conduct detrimental to the league, Commissioner Roger Goodell announced on Tuesday.

The commissioner also said big-play wide receiver Chris Henry of the Cincinnati Bengals will miss the first eight games of the upcoming season for his conduct away from the field.

"We must protect the integrity of the NFL," Goodell said in a statement. "The highest standards of conduct must be met by everyone in the NFL because it is a privilege to represent the NFL, not a right.

"These players, and all members of our league, have to make the right choices and decisions in their conduct on a consistent basis."

Jones has been arrested five times since he entered the league in 2005 and charges are pending for his involvement in a shooting at a Las Vegas strip club during the NBA All-Star weekend in February.

Three people were shot and one was paralyzed in the pre-dawn melee.

Stoichkov quits Bulgaria, takes over at Celta

MADRID: Hristo Stoichkov was appointed coach of Spanish league strugglers Celta Vigo after quitting his post in charge of the Bulgarian national team on Tuesday.

"The club has concluded an agreement with the Bulgarian who was up until now the coach of his national side," Primera Liga club Celta said on their website

The Galicians sacked coach Fernando Vazquez on Monday after dropping into the relegation zone following a 4-2 defeat at Recreativo Huelva.

Earlier, the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) said Stoichkov, 41, had notified them that he had decided to quit his post.

"We have accepted the resignation of Bulgaria coach Hristo Stoichkov and team manager Dimitar Dimitrov," BFU president Borislav Mihailov said.

Slumping Fulham sack Coleman, Sanchez appointed caretaker

LONDON: Fulham have sacked manager Chris Coleman and appointed Northern Ireland's Lawrie Sanchez as his temporary replacement, the Premier League club said in a statement on their website late on Tuesday.

Fulham have slipped to 15th in the league, just four points above the relegation zone.

"Chris Coleman has provided fantastic service during his 10 years at the club and it is disappointing that the club has no alternative but to part company," the statement said.

Coleman's assistant Steve Kean has also left the club.

Sanchez, who has steered Northern Ireland to the top of their European Championship qualifying group, will manage Fulham on a caretaker basis until the end of the season.
