Sun president resigns
Computer maker Sun Microsystems Inc said yesterday that company veteran Daniel Yu (below), president of Sun Greater China, has decided to leave the company.
Lionel Lim, president of Sun Asia South and chief operating officer of Sun Asia-Pacific, will take over duties as president of the Greater China operation, in addition to his current roles, Sun said in a statement.
Yu decided to leave the company he had been with since 1985 to spend more time with his family, Sun said. A company spokeswoman confirmed Yu would leave Sun on April 13.
NASDAQ appointment
The NASDAQ Stock Market Inc announced the appointment of Xu Guangxun as its chief representative in China.
Xu will be in charge of maintaining the relationship between NASDAQ and Chinese companies and securities regulators, and attracting more Chinese companies to list on the exchange.
Eric D Landheer, head of NASDAQ Asia-Pacific, said the appointment would help NASDAQ's expansion in China. Currently 40 Chinese companies with a combined market value of $28 billion are listed on the NASDAQ.
New managing director
Providence Equity Partners Inc, a leading global private equity firm specializing in media, entertainment, communications and information investments, announced yesterday the appointment of Michelle Guthrie as managing director for the Asia-Pacific. Guthrie served most recently as chief executive officer of STAR, a leading media and entertainment company in Asia wholly owned by News Corporation.
Guthrie will begin in the new position on June 1 and will be based in Hong Kong.
