Biz Scene: BIZ UNUSUAL
Golden undies
A model decked out in gold underwear turned heads at the recent Auditions China gold jewelry design competition.
The event was held by Anglo Gold Ashanti and the World Gold Council.
The underwear was made from 458.66 grams of gold. The show also featured a pair of glasses made from 111.3 grams of gold.
China's gold industry is booming according to a recent report, which said demand was expected to rise to 400 to 500 tons a year, compared to the current 200 tons.
Tea shortage
Despite growing demand, the drought in Southwest China's Yunnan Province has limited output of Pu'er tea.
And the tea is being sold at over 1,000 yuan per kilogram.
Distributors from all over China and abroad are flocking to the province to get hold of the limited supply of tea. Analysts said the market was not mature enough: "The price should be stable; the dramatic price fluctuations are not good."
Catch of the day
A fisherman in South China's Guangdong Province hit the jackpot recently when he hauled in a 49-kilogram fish and sold it to a restaurant for 580,000 yuan.
The giant tiger fish is considered lucky because of its golden color. Pan, the restaurant manager, said it planned to sell the fish for 2,000 yuan per kilogram to customers. But he said the belly of the fish was not for sale.
