Monitor funds for education

China Daily | Updated: 2007-04-04 06:43

The costly hospitality expenses of Peking University reveal the poor financial management of institutions of higher learning, says a commentary in Guangzhou Daily. An excerpt follows:

A news release provided by the government of Haidian District in Beijing said the hospitality expenses of Beida equal that of a medium-sized province. Beida denied the scale but admitted its hospitality costs were very high.

Haidian District cited the example of Beida in its feasibility study to build top-level hotels. Now there are altogether 23 hotels in the district that are under construction or to be built. All these hotels are aiming at the higher learning institutions densely located in the district.
