News Makers: 'Milkman' drug boss jailed for 30 years

A drugs baron dubbed The Milkman because he "always delivered" was jailed for 30 years yesterday after being found guilty of masterminding one of the biggest cocaine smuggling operations in British history.

Irish-born Brian Wright, 60, who oversaw an international operation worth hundreds of millions of dollars, is likely to die in prison, his lawyer told the court.

Customs officials giving evidence said Wright used yachts to smuggle drug shipments in what was "probably the most sophisticated and successful global cocaine trafficking organization ever to target the UK".
