Minister's plane lands safely

A plane carrying 259 people including Japanese Finance Minister Koji Omi made a safe emergency landing at an airport in southern Japan yesterday, an airline official said, adding that there were no injuries.

The Japan Airlines plane, a Boeing 777-200 carrying 249 passengers and 10 crew members, landed safely after being forced to shut down one engine when a warning light indicated overheating, said JAL spokesman Stephen Pearlman.
