Army mulls ban on nails

Thailand's military is considering a ban on unauthorized possession of 7.5-to-12.5-centimeter carpentry nails in the country's southernmost provinces, where Islamic insurgents use them to puncture car tires prior to staging attacks.

Such a restriction would have to make sure that construction projects were not affected, Major General Chamlong Khunsong, the deputy commander of the army's southern region, said yesterday.
